Based on a modern campus in Brig, UniDistance Suisse is a university institute accredited under the Higher Education Act (HedA), which for over 30 years has been offering Bachelor's, Master's and continuing education programmes in the fields of law, psychology, economics, history, mathematics and computer science. To strengthen and further develop its research cluster in economic data science, the Faculty of Economics at UniDistance Suisse is looking for a:

Research Assistant in Microeconometrics (PhD Student) (80-100%)

Place of work: Brig/Switzerland
Start of work: 1st August 2026 (or by appointment)

Join our team and contribute to ongoing research in applied econometrics, with a focus on causal inference and machine learning. The position includes the opportunity to contribute to a SNF research project, support teaching activities, and take part in research seminars and workshops. We also offer the possibility to pursue a PhD in Business and Economics.

Candidates with a Master’s degree in Economics or a related field and solid analytical skills are invited to apply. We particularly welcome applicants who are interested in the potential of online education and in working within a modern, digital environment.

Your tasks

  • Conduct research focused on causal inference, data science, and machine learning
  • Build a strong academic profile
  • Collaborate actively on research projects with fellow researchers at UniDistance Suisse and across national and international institutions
  • Assist in online teaching
  • Attend and participate in research seminars, workshops, and related academic events

Your profile

  • Excellent Master's degree in in Economics, Econometrics, or a related field (completed or near completion)
  • Strong analytical and quantitative skills, with solid training in econometric methods
  • Interest or background in areas such as causal inference, causal machine learning, partial identification, or the use of large administrative data
  • Experience with statistical programming languages such as R, Python, or Stata
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a research team
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English
